AMWHO is an authentic simulation of the World Health Assembly, the sole decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). Our mission as an organization is to engage with public health issues and collaboratively develop innovative solutions to address them. AMWHO chapter members can remain active in two primary ways. In Fall 2020, our members will engage in a semester-long project regarding the International Health Regulations. The International Health Regulations, or IHR (2005), represent an agreement between 196 countries including all WHO Member States to work together for global health security. Through IHR, countries have agreed to build their capacities to detect, assess and report public health events. These regulations will likely be updated in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, our chapter members will be working in teams based on WHO region throughout the course of the semester to research about the current IHR, its issues, and potential resolutions to improve these regulations, culminating in an infographic presented at the end of the semester.
