UNC AMWHO 2021-2022 Executive Board Application
UNC AMWHO is excited to begin the selection process for our 2021-2022 Executive Board! We are looking for talented and highly motivated students who are interested in joining our team. Next year, UNC AMWHO will plan the 2022 AMWHO Regional Conference and continue to promote global health policy through campus affairs events. Being a part of the Executive Board is an excellent opportunity for students to gain leadership and professional experience in public health, health policy, and medicine.
About Us
AMWHO is an authentic simulation of the World Health Assembly, the sole decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO). Students assume the roles of a variety of actors and engage in debates and discussion on global health challenges.
At conferences, undergraduate and graduate students will assume the roles of WHO ambassadors, non-governmental organization members, media correspondents, or industry representatives. In regional blocs, delegates debate, write, and ultimately vote on a resolution that aims to address the global public health challenge and theme of the conference. If the resolution passes, it will go to plenary, where all of the regional blocs come together to debate and vote again on each region’s resolutions. Final resolutions that pass will be sent to the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.
Beyond debate, UNC AMWHO is an amazing opportunity to hear from experts in global public health! Throughout the conference, students will have access to renowned professors from the Gillings School of Global Public Health and public health professions from the Triangle from a wide variety disciplines. Students will hear from and talk to these guest speakers at the banquet, opening and closing ceremonies, and a lunch and learn event.
Campus Affairs events will take place several times per semester. These events are a great opportunity to learn about and discuss key public health issues. Examples of events include guest lectures, speaker panels, and disaster response simulations.
